Someone I admire

I admire people who puts their best into doing things that they believe in and will persevere in it till the very end.
Because, its so hard for me to do it!

Things that I've done halfway
1. Made my parents let me take piano lessons, make them buy me a $4k piano, learnt till Grade 2 and insist that I dun like it anymore.
2. Took 5 guitar lessons at Yamaha
3. Meddled with jewellery making and now i have plenty of beads, crystals..etc lying around somewhere as i've gone tired of it.
4. Meddled with scrapbooking and alter art and nw they are also in boxes lying somewhere.
5. Set up a pets supplies business and gave up after 1 year coz i was too tired.
6. Had first job for 1 year, second job for 2 years, third job for one year and nw i'm 2 yrs into my fourth job... while ....waiting for gd news.
7. Signed up for World Vision, adopted a little Thai girl and sent money for 1 year before growing lazy.
8. Lost many friends because I'm simply too lazy to keep in touch.
9. Wanted to learn rollerblades, bought rollerblades and didnt want to do it anymore after less than 10 times
10. Took 8 Graphic Design lessons
and many more stuff which i'm too ashamed to admit that i get tired and give up too easily :P

Thus, i really admire this colleague of mine -> Ms Lay Keow for simply being able complete tasks that she believes in.
Just last year, she single handedly raise $4,620 to build a library in Nepal.
This year, she roped in a friend and they are aiming to raise USD5,000 to support two girls through school.

I admire her because her one task is even more difficult than any of my 10 tasks above.
How much courage does it take to ask people for money?
To face discouraging remarks and to answer the same questions again and again.
With the recent numbers of fraud in charity organisations, I'm sure she face more suspicious people. Its' easy for us to make a donation but to organise a fund raise is definitely nt an easy feat.

I'm touched by her kindness to want to reach out to people whom we don't even know. Just because she believes in it. I like to say i want to do this, do that for the needy etc, but how much does it take to take the first step forward. It is really not easy. Thus i really admire Lay Keow in this aspect.

It will be easier for her if everyone is kinder. Actually, when we make a donation, whether small or big, we would hv already accumulated good karma due to our good intentions. In the Buddhist point of view, the more we give, the more we will gain, maybe not in monetary form bt in the form of good luck, good health..etc.
Some people feel bitter that they hv donated to NKF or think that there were cheated, but actually, at the moment of giving, if we hv good intentions (not thinking abt those attractive lucky draws bt thinking of the beneficiaries), we would hv attained good merits.
Even if you do not believe in it, do not discourage others as this will bring about bad karma.

Thus, if you would like to support this kind hearted colleague of mine in her 'Room To Grow' Project. Please let me know.
You could also read more abt her fund raising in her blog at my link on the left.
Lay Keow, you may not have reached your target here but its not far! Jia You! I support u :)
